Mason Hospital Update 11/8

We're home!!!!!!!  Mason did great today with his minor procedure.  They took his packing out, irrigated the cavity and repacked with fresh medicated gauze.  Still no more fevers.  He is going to see the urologist back next wednesday.  We are all glad to be back home!

Mason Hospital Update 11/7 part II

Pretty unventful day other than Mason is now starting to bounce off the walls and was pretty fussy today.  I know he is just ready to get out of the hospital and back home just like mom and dad.  The urologist stopped by late today and plan is for Mason to go to have his abscess irrigated and repacked "mid morning" and they are thinking maybe Friday as discharge.  I'm actually hoping we could possibly go home tomorrow but i'll discuss more with the urologist tomorrow.  Mason continues to be fever free!

Mason Hospital Update 11/7

Mason has not run any fevers since he had his surgery done yesterday.  In fact, he hasn't even had low grade fevers, his temperature has been completely normal!  He slept really well last night after he got some morphine for his pain.  This morning he had the best appetite he's had in the last week.  It will be another 24 hours at least until we get an identification on the bacteria, but the possibility exists that we may not get a bacteria to grow out since he's been on antibiotics, we'll just have to wait and see.  The great news is that he is doing so much better.   He will go to the minor procedure  room tomorrow (not to the operating room, but a room where they do moderate sedation) to have his packing removed and likely repacked and the abscess cavity inspected.

We are trying not to speculate too much on when he might be able to go home.  At this point, we just hope and pray he continues to improve.  We never thought when we came to the ER last thursday afternoon that we would still be here 6 days later, so we've given up trying to predict the future.  However, that being said, if he continues to improve and the procedure goes well tomorrow, he may be well enough to go home later tomorrow or Friday.  Thanks again for your continued prayers!  Check out some of the Instagram photos on the blog front page that Angela has posted of Mason in the hospital.

Mason Hospital Update 11/6 part II

Our little man is asleep now.   It's been quite the day.  He did well in surgery late this afternoon and the urologist stated "the pus just flowed out" after he made his incision.  He was able to get in there and break up the pus pockets and then they irrigated the abscess cavity really good.  Instead of placing a drain, they ended up packing the abscess with medicated gauze.  They were able to send a culture of the pus so we should hopefully have an idea of the bacteria causing the abscess in the next day or two.  The plan for now is to continue IV antibiotics and on Thursday, they are going to take him to a minor procedure room in the hospital, sedate him, and remove the packing and likely repack the wound again vs. maybe just leave the packing out depending on how it's healing.  Mason's groin area was too swollen and infected for the urologist to get a good read on the issue with the cyst.  As mentioned before, this is likely going to have to be addressed surgically going forward.  However, the urologist did mention that the cyst/tract may close up on its own after performing the incision and drainge.  Time should tell.
